Our youth volunteers play a vital role in creating a positive, energetic, and supportive camp environment. Through leadership and service, they grow in responsibility, compassion, and teamwork.

Volunteering as a youth volunteer is an opportunity to develop confidence, communication skills, and a spirit of giving — while making a lasting impact on others.

Youth Volunteers

Counselors

Youth counselors serve as mentors and role models for campers. They help guide daily routines, support group activities, and ensure campers feel welcomed and cared for.

Activity Team

Activity Team helps plan and lead camp-wide activities. They bring creativity, energy, and enthusiasm to the camp experience, ensuring activities are engaging and meaningful for campers.

Youth Volunteer Qualifications

📍 Interest in learning, practicing, and sharing Buddhist teachings with camp participants
📍 Age of 16 - 35 at time of camp
📍 Must be available for:
          Training weekends on 6/6/26 - 6/7/27, 6/27/26 - 6/28/26 weekends
          All camp dates on Wednesday, July 1st - Sunday, July 5th 2026

📍 Must be available for 30-minute interview with counselor coordinators (via phone / video chat). Interview will be scheduled with applicant as applications throughout April.

Responsibilities

🌻 Kids Counselor 

  • Participate as an active and positive Kids Group team player

  • Present as a positive role model for our campers

  • Communicate with Kids Group Coord. with any questions, updates, and concerns

  • Attend in-person and virtual training sessions

  • Work closely and communicate with co counselors

🌸 Teen Group Counselor

  • Responsible for overseeing the campers and ensuring their safety at all times

  • Responsible for gathering the campers before classes and activities

  • Engage with campers during classes and encourage them to participate

  • Lead group discussions with campers at the end of the day and review what they learned

  • Works collaboratively with their peers and able to adapt well to situations

  • Counselors should be compassionate and caring towards their peers, campers, and themselves

🌺 Activities Group Volunteer 

  • Responsible for organizing and hosting the campwide activities including Field Day and Campfire Celebration (involves planning meetings before camp)

  • Engage in team building exercises with other Activities Group volunteers (includes games and also classes with monastic teachers)

  • Volunteers will also take on a range of tasks including: lifting and moving heavy equipment, setting up crafts and decorating rooms and areas, administrative tasks and teaching assistance,  hosting and MCing games and entertainment, serving as runners between volunteer groups

All volunteers should attend and receive training and role-specific preparation (online and in-person), which will take place in May and June.
